Warsaw Riots: Filmed by a Recon Droid (RC Helicopter)

If you haven’t heard, for four nights last week Warsaw echoed the whomps and hisses of exploding tear-gas bombs, the thuds of rubber truncheons and the taunting cries of “Gestapo, Gestapo,” which came from the throats of thousands of rioting polish university students. It has been the most severe civil disturbance since the Poznan rebellion of last year. Latajacakamera -a YouTube user- uploaded this amazing footage of the riots, using his RC Helicopter to soar above the barricades; this vantage point gives you an interesting look into the mechanics of an organized police force and the severity of the riots.

Productivity Future Vision (2011 release)

Microsoft’s’ vision of a future world where technology will help people make better use of their time, focus their attention on the tasks at hand and strengthen relationships while being a busy bee at work, home and while on the road. Pretty interesting concept of the future, but it makes me feel somewhat overwhelmed with the amount of inner connectivity. One person remarked on the comments “So…porn on my fridge, newspaper, books, phones, tables, tablets, T.V.’s, and on the window of my car!” just goes to show that productivity is relative to the person.

Life in a Day

Director Kevin Macdonald and producer Ridley Scott team up to offer this candid snapshot of a single day on planet Earth. Compiled from over 80,000 YouTube submissions by contributors in 192 countries, Life in a Day presents a microcosmic view of our daily experiences as a global society.

From the mundane to the profound, everything has its place as we spend 90 minutes gaining greater insight into the lives of people who may be more like us than we ever suspected, despite the fact that we’re separated by incredible distances.

Occupy George

Seems like the American revolution is picking up some steam but isn’t being broadcasted by any media stations anywhere within America, which gives off a very 1984 feel. There is a huge collaboration of artists and designers that are creating more compelling slogans and signs to open the eyes of the entire nation.

One of those projects is Occupy George, a series of five stamps that place an infographic about earnings disparities and how wealth is distributed in America directly on the famous symbol of wealth itself- this is one bad ass idea.

The project has been pulling all-nighters for about a week, printing on more $1 bills, and then exchanging them at Occupy Wall Street protests, getting more bills to modify each time.

Apparently in America defacing a dollar bill is considered a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code, which says that “whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”  The law is enforced by the Secret Service; pretty scary stuff.

Tokyo Rising

Japan has been punched in the face and kneed in the balls but has always gotten back up to fight back. They’ve been bombed by two nukes, had the worst firestorms in history, struck by earthquakes that move mountains and tsunamis big enough to quench the Sahara deserts’ thirst.

Some people would say they’ve been dealt a bad hand, but a Japanese person would say it makes them strong and infinitely more resourceful than most countries that get struck by natural or man made horrors.

These videos goes through the events of  the recent nuclear fallout/tsunami and displays how the city of Tokyo keeps its head above the nuclear waters. The documentary is broken up into 5 parts and arms itself with great music and a hopeful narrative that highlights the resilience of the Japanese people. Found this via Endofthegame

Burning Man

Ive always wanted to go to this amazing event! It’s as if the human unconscious was just spewed out for a week in a celebration of the spirit and the mind. What amazing things you would see, even Google/Apple employes are encouraged to go- to revel in the deep creative forces of our species. Here are some video’s from a couple of the Burning man events, i especially love the time lapses- it reminds me of some futuristic world. Man, this would be the funnest party ever! Even though there are rules (shocking right?), it doesn’t take away from the grandeur of this mesmerizing festival. If your wondering, the 10 principles which the event is governed by are:

Radical inclusion-Who ever can afford a ticket is welcomed since there are no prerequisites to be apart of the Burn, but people are expected to follow the rest of the rules.

Decommodification- There are no cash transactions allowed between attendees of the event! The only time you pull out your wallet is to give to charities which in turn give you ice (not the drug), fuel and lemonade. :) Pretty cool, no?

Nobody Can Predict The Moment Of Revolution

This is a new social movement thats taking shape in real time, this video was shot during the 5th and 6th day of the financial district occupation in New York. The movement was inspired by the world wide revolutions, believing that this is a perfect social climate to spark real change in the American landscape. I really do wish these guys the best of luck, even though I’m a bit pessimistic about results, it’s still nice to see patriotic Americans fight for their liberties; for our liberties. I’m not courageous enough to live in Huxleys’ ‘Brave New World’, that’s for sure.

Being Elmo

Wow, i can honestly say as a kid i never thought of the Muppets as puppets but as actual live beings, i don’t know why, maybe it’s because these guys gave it their all when it came to their work. This movie looks into the history of Elmo, one of the most beloved characters among children across the globe and the unlikely man behind the puppet-the heart and soul of Elmo- Kevin Clash.
Hope you enjoy this little trailer, thought I’d share.
