Holymotherofgod, this is shocking! Ian Millhiser, Center for American Progress joins Thom Hartmann. Is the Supreme Court about to give corporations the right to commit genocide? Believe it or not – that may happen. The High Court has agreed to hear the case of Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum which could give corporations immunity from any lawsuits for their employees murdering, raping, or torturing people in the areas where they’re drilling for oil or fielding mercenary armies – just as long as they’re carrying out the atrocities under the heading of corporate business.
I was too young to really understand what was going on during this time, but I’ll admit I’ve always been curious to why the economic crisis occurred and so today i decided to do some research. Stumbled on this documentary which explained the entire disaster pretty thoroughly; with interviews of the main players in the economic markets from around the world. The documentary is split into four parts: The Men Who Crashed the World, A Global Tsunami, Paying the Price and After the Fall. Check it out, you might just learn a thing or two about how interconnected the world is through our economies and the magnitude of human stupidity and greed that sparked the crash. Oh by the way, you can turn that annoying website ad that pops up on the doc by hitting the ‘Hide Annotations’ speech bubble at the bottom right of the video.

It’s odd that the company that only holds a market share of 7% for personal computer users, has the whopping 70% market share for MP3 players. Continue reading →
This series is about how those in power have used Freud’s theories to try and control the dangerous crowd in an age of mass democracy. Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, changed the perception of the human mind and its workings profoundly. His influence on the 20th century is widely regarded as massive. The documentary describes the impact of Freud’s theories on the perception of the human mind, and the ways public relations agencies and politicians have used this during the last 100 years for their engineering of consent. Among the main characters are Freud himself and his nephew Edward Bernays, who was the first to use psychological techniques in advertising. He is often seen as the father of the public relations industry.
